GUDEL AIRWAY

Category:

A medical device called an oropharyngeal airway, sometimes referred to as a Guedel airway, is used in airway management to keep or open a patient’s airway by keeping the tongue from covering the epiglottis, which could obstruct breathing.
As an adjunct to help maintain an open airway, it is a stiff plastic tube that runs along the upper part of the mouth and finishes at the base of the tongue.

Key Features

  • Oropharyngeal Airway Maintenance: Helps keep the airway unobstructed in unconscious patients or during general anesthesia.
  • Integrated Bite Block: Prevents tongue biting and airway occlusion caused by jaw clenching.
  • Rounded Atraumatic Edges: Minimizes risk of injury or irritation to oral tissues.
  • Smooth Airway Path: Allows for easy insertion, removal, and cleaning.
  • Color-Coded Sizes: Bite blocks are color-coded for quick and easy size identification.
  • Sterile and Disposable: Individually packed for single use to ensure hygiene and prevent cross-contamination.

Applications

  • Anaesthesia Support: Commonly used during general anaesthesia to maintain a patent airway.
  • Emergency Airway Management: Essential for use in unconscious patients in emergency and pre-hospital care.
  • ICU and Critical Care: Suitable for maintaining airway patency in sedated or comatose patients.
  • CPR and Resuscitation: Aids in effective ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
